Cutler Park

Just five miles away, Cutler Park encompasses 600 acres that protect a freshwater marsh on the Charles River. Bring your binoculars because the birdwatching is spectacular. There’s a 1.5 mile loop that you can walk or mountain bike around and a ramp where you can launch a non-motorized boat, canoe, or kayak. Fishing is also allowed. In the winter you can cross country ski for the ultimate calorie burn. The park is open from dawn to dusk, and parking is free near the entrance.

Franklin Park

For over 100 years, residents in Boston have loved visiting Franklin Park. The 485 acre open space has multi-use trails, playgrounds, and sports fields. There is also a renowned cross country course and a golf course. The park hosts events year round, like the annual Turkey Trot. This year’s race will take place Thursday, November 24 at 9 am – be sure to check it out! Another popular attraction is the Franklin Park Zoo. Purchase a zoo membership to visit as often as you like for a year. The zoo has special events throughout the year, like Boston Lights which takes place through the end of September. From October 1-March 31 the zoo will switch to winter hours – they will be open daily from 9 am until 4 pm.

Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary

Mass Audubon’s oldest wildlife sanctuary was established in 1916 and covers almost 2,000 acres. Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary has 20 miles of trails to hike with a boardwalk running through the swamp. The fall foliage will be beautiful, so plan a visit soon. There is a nature center that is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 pm until 4 pm. The Farm at Moose Hill is a great place to get fresh, organic veggies, and you can sign up to be a member of the co-op next summer. It is located at 293 Moose Hill Parkway in Sharon.
